Project Engineer

Project Engineer Position Summary

Dowling Company, Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our dynamic team on Maui. This is a unique opportunity designed for a motivated individual interested in contributing to and gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of housing, infrastructure, and real estate development. The Project Engineer will play a critical role in housing solutions, design oversight, and project management, contributing to the successful development and operation of a diverse portfolio of housing and infrastructure projects.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Manager with overseeing multiple projects and ensuring each project is well-organized and running smoothly.
  • Help Project Manager manage upfront entitlements and work to secure necessary permits and approvals from State and County agencies.
  • Create and work with the team on the project plans, schedules, deliverables, presentations, budgets, issues, and risks.
  • Identify potential problems during the course of a project and develop solutions and strategies to quickly address those issues.
  • Monitor project progress and create project status reports for project managers and stakeholders, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and on budget.
  • Oversee daily administrative tasks, such as arranging for support services, billing, reviewing invoices, managing project documentation and files, and preparing meeting minutes and reports.
  • Perform due diligence, including zoning research, environmental reviews, and technical studies.
  • Identify potential risks that may affect the project’s success or progress, and develop plans to mitigate those risks.
  • Review design work and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success: oversee architects, engineers, landscape architects, planners, and other consultants and contractors.
  • Communicate and build relationships with stakeholders, clients, and various team members.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in real estate development, planning, engineering or architecture design, construction management, or related fields preferred.
  • Proficiency with Outlook, MS Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam & Adobe Acrobat.
  • Self-starter with excellent organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to oversee multiple project deliverables and present the status clearly.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach aligned with the core values of the organization.
  • Working knowledge of the development processes, zoning regulations, entitlements, and permitting is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
