Residential Assistant and/or Residential Director

We are seeking candidates for the position of Residential Assistant and Residential Director to work with our STEP students, grades 11 and 12 on the UAlbany campus in Summer 2025. This is open to spring graduates as well as returning full-time students with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. 

The Science Technology Entry Program believes that students should have a chance to get the true college experience, whether that is staying in the dorm room, eating in the dining hall, and engaging in research opportunities. University at Albany sponsors an annual Summer Research Institute that offers underrepresented 11th and 12th graders an enriching and valuable college experience for three weeks. This is where you come in.

 As a RA/RD, you will be expected to: Enforce all safety rules and regulations while on campus, in dining halls and in dorms. Chaperone STEP students at all times on the UAlbany campus and during off-campus excursions. Mentor STEP students in an academically successful and college-ready way. Lead activities and workshops on STEM, college-readiness, and careers as well as physical and mental wellness; and other duties as assigned by professional STEP staff supervisors.


All Majors are encouraged to apply but STEM Majors are preferred! 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Undergraduate student at the University at Albany- RD or RA position 

Recent graduate student or at the University at Albany- RD position only Preferred 

Qualifications: Experience in Resident Life- RD position only. 

Primary Responsibilities:
•Develop a positive rapport with each resident of the University at Albany’s Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) and build a trusting relationship that will foster open communication.
•Assist in the development of community standards and roommate expectations. •Encourage residents to respect and maintain their building and campus surroundings. •Assist residents in their development as students and individuals.
•Be approachable, accessible and visible to their residents in the residence areas, as well as in on-campus dining facilities.
•Confront inappropriate behavior in an objective, consistent and respectful manner while providing rationale for policies. Required Responsibilities:
•Oversee all residents during the duration of the three weeks.
•Oversee Student Assistant to ensure staff is fulling their obligations.
•Attend and participate in any scheduled meetings.
•Required to work through student check-in and check-out that occur during Sundays and Fridays.
• Responsible for coming up with activities to do during student down time.
• Be available to come to campus the Wednesday prior to the start of program for orientation and preparation. Work for the entirety of the three weeks of Summer programming (occurs in July).
