Internship in Biotechnology

We are seeking qualified BIO & Chem students or college graduates who are highly motivated and seek internship training and experience in biotechnology. Applications are accepted year-round.

TO QUALIFY MUST APPLY ON WEBSITE: https://www.aptagen.com/join-the-team/

The Aptagen Laboratory is located in Jacobus, PA, a suburb of York, beautifully surrounded by hiking and horseback riding trails near Lake Williams and Lake Redman. We are conveniently situated off of Interstate 83.

The 6-month research training affectionately referred to as a “biotech boot camp”, is intensive but very rewarding and enjoyable. On Fridays, scientists attend Journal Club where they improve their speaking skills by presenting newsworthy articles. The culture of the lab is an academic atmosphere mixed with the fast pace and energy of a start-up, where students receive a ‘graduate school’ experience.

We’ve received very positive responses from previous lab personnel. They’ve learned more in Aptagen’s lab than anywhere else– experience they don’t get from a classroom. Aptagen’s training program has given former trainees an edge and head-start over their peers without research experience, better preparing them for graduate school and successful careers in science.  Trainees learn a variety of techniques, how to troubleshoot experiments, properly maintain a detailed laboratory notebook, exercise laboratory math skills, and develop critical thinking skills– all necessary for a successful career in science.

We encourage manuscript writing for publications in scientific journals.

Laboratory experiments are generally molecular biology-based, with a focus on synthetic biology. Techniques may include real-time PCR, gel electrophoresis, a variety of assays, DNA/RNA synthesis, next-generation sequencing, cell culture, flow cytometry, etc.

Chemistry majors will gain experience in our synthesis lab producing DNA and RNA biopolymers, peptide synthesis (in progress), bioconjugation reactions, analysis and purification of samples by HPLC, and mass spectrometry analysis.

Trainees are under the close supervision of a supervisor or mentor, acting as an extension of their hands-on research projects. In return, trainees get valuable hands-on experience, as well as the following soft skills: public speaking and effective peer-to-peer communication, teamwork problem-solving, building effective networks, adaptability, and overall leadership skills.

EXAMPLE Competency Techniques

Schedule & Lab Hours (part-time & full-time).

All successful graduates from Aptagen’s Internship & Master’s Co-Op Program, 1) will receive strong Letters of Recommendation for graduate school or medical school, 2) and/or Employment with the company may be offered (along with Graduate School Sponsorship).
