Laboratory Technician III

Laboratory Technician III

Primary role of Laboratory Technician III is to perform all required tests, analysis, and pre operation inspections in a precise manner with understanding of the science involved and meeting all food safety, customer quality, and worker safety requirements.

Responsibilities:

· Perform general laboratory tests and pull product samples for analysis from Processing/Packaging/Ingredients.

· Share results with Production (delays in analysis can cause issues with production of cheese). Corrective action required according to analysis, shipping, loss of product and customer service issues.

· Operate systems and equipment as trained and specified.

· Ensure accurate record keeping of performed testing and recording charts are properly documented according to company and regulatory regulations.

· Adhere to all current SOPs, procedures, and quality requirements. Not limited to

  • pH testing
  • %moisture- Microwave, CEM, FT-NIR scan
  • Butter fat
  • Coliform Plating
  • pH Calibration
  • Balance/Scale calibration/verification
  • Clostridia Testing
  • Data entry

· Maintain a safe, clean, organized work area throughout the facility and common areas.

· Maintain cooperative working relationships and communications with employees from all other departments.

· Detail orientated in ensuring compliance with USDA, NYS Agriculture, SQF and FDA.

· Perform all other duties as assigned that are necessary, required, or directed by plant management.

Job Requirements:

· Must have GED or High School Diploma.

· Associate’s degree or some science courses preferred.

· Must have good oral and written communication skills.

· Competency with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook.

· Willing to perform all tasks when and where assigned and as changing situations arise.

· Maintain professional and positive attitude and work ethic.

· Must follow all Yancey’s Fancy GMPs and work consistent with all food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.

· Occasionally work Holidays and/or Saturdays to read Coliform plates.

· Occasional need to work overtime.

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to bend, stretch, reach, grab, push, pull, hold and carry.

· Lift up to 50lbs.

· Standing, walking, and climbing for 8+ hours a day.

· Must be able to handle varying temperatures per department, between 35 degrees to 80+ degrees.
