
University Bookstore/Textbook Rental Student Worker - SUMMER 2025 - Work Study or Regular Pay

Position Summary:
This position is responsible for customer service, inventory, merchandising, and clerical support to the University Bookstore and Textbook Rental. Individuals in this position must possess strong communication skills along with an ability to work in a team environment. This position will work under general supervision and report to the Associate Director of the University Bookstore.
Position Description:
1.) Provide strong customer service to the diverse campus and community populations.
a. Assist customers in finding products including clothing, supplies, and textbooks.
b. Greet all customers entering the bookstore, and creating an overall welcoming environment.
c. Provide accurate information on bookstore/textbook rental policies, procedures, and important dates.
d. Provide accurate textbook information to students and faculty.
e. Assist with cap n’ gown orders and pickup during Fall/Spring commencement.
f. Ensure knowledge of new and existing products.
2.) Maintain accurate and efficient cash/credit handling.
a. Ensure that all transactions are done accurately, efficiently, and register balances after every shift.
b. Maintain up to date knowledge of register policies and procedures. Follow proper transaction procedures for every type of transaction.
c. Inform appropriate staff members if merchandise does not ring up correctly.
d. Maintain a visible presence at the register at all times.
e. Ability to use POS system effectively.
3.) Receive and inventory merchandise.
a. Work with the Inventory Control Manager to learn receiving process and procedures.
b. Ensure that all merchandise is received and entered accurately and with high attention to detail.
c. Maintain organization of stock-room, sales floor, and back-room per store standards.
d. Assist staff with textbook receiving, organization, and stickering.
e. Ability to use inventory system effectively to process orders and look up merchandise.
f. Assist in maintaining an effective web page by helping staff with web images, website orders, and website inventory.
4.) Assist in merchandising new products, and maintaining an organized/clean store.
a. Maintain a clean/organize store by folding, re-hanging, and re-stocking clothing per store standards.
b. Assist staff on displaying new products and creating effective displays.
c. Dusting shelves in clothing, supplies, and textbooks.
d. Keeping the cashwrap clean and organized per store standards.
e. Re-stocking clothing, food, supplies, and textbooks on a daily basis.
f. Complete daily cleaning schedule
5.) Assist in planning and execution of events and store promotions.
a. Remain up to date on store promotions and events.
b. Assist with special events such as: Football games, Homecoming, Family Fest, New Student Night, Plan it Purple, and Salute to Grads.
c. Work with staff to inform customers of current promotions and assist in the execution of those promotions.
d. Work with staff on social media outreach and marketing.
