Mechanical Engineer Intern

Position:  Mechanical Engineer Intern                                                       

Department:  Operations (Engineering)

Employment Classification: Full Time (non-exempt)

Reports to:   Engineering Manager

Supervision:  None

Internal Interaction:   Operations Team, Factory Personnel

External Interaction:  Vendors

 

Summary

 

In this position it is our objective to expose you to how a machine building organization operates on a day-to-day basis.  You will utilize the skills you have been introduced to at your university in a real-world environment.   It is our objective to provide you with the ability to decide if a career within our industry and company would be right for you.

 

A major task for this summer internship period will be to assist the engineering department with reorganizing all of our legacy 2D drawings and 3D models into PDM Vault structures and creating batch print routines to populate read-only viewable released drawing folders.  A majority of this will involve Autodesk Inventor drawing and model types so we are looking for an individual already versed in Inventor model, drawing and file management techniques.

 

Responsibilities

 

  1. Read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  2. Assist with mechanical design of products (Autodesk Inventor and Solidworks).
  3. Perform analytical calculations to support machine design.
  4. Assist with applying GD&T to properly specify mechanical fit and alignment precision.
  5. Assist with machine assembly and testing.
  6. Research legacy data and drawing archives to migrate to Vault and released folders.
  7. Population of design data in the ERP system
  8. Incorporate engineering changes into existing and new drawings/designs (ECR process).
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

Background/Qualifications

 

  1. Pursing AS or BS in ME or MET, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  2. Should have demonstrated mechanical aptitude in hobbies. 
  3. Educational background in CAD required (3D preferred).
  4. Educational background in engineering sciences (physics, statics, dynamics, strength of material, machine elements, etc.).
  5. High integrity, solid work ethic, energetic team player, willing to help and take the initiative to get things done.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
