Exhibition Intern Overview
The New Jersey Hispanic Research & Information Center (NJHRIC) at the Newark Public Library seeks a motivated and detail-oriented Arts Intern to assist in co-curating the annual Latino Celebration exhibition. This internship provides a unique opportunity to engage with Hispanic heritage and culture while gaining hands-on experience in public history and exhibition design.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with NJHRIC staff in the planning and executing the Latino Celebration exhibition.
- Conduct historical research relevant to the selected topic for the exhibition.
- Assist in selecting materials for an interactive exhibit highlighting the chosen theme or region of Latin America.
- Author descriptive captions to narrate the exhibit's contents and enhance visitor engagement.
- Digitize archival materials in preparation for a digital exhibit.
- Participate in initial training sessions and ongoing guidance from the archivist and other staff members.
Requirements, Skills, and Qualifications
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in Art History, Museum Studies, Hispanic Studies, or a related field.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Interest in Hispanic culture and heritage.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency in digital tools and technology for archival work.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred but not required.
- Interested candidates should submit a resume, cover letter, and a writing sample.
Compensation
$22.50 per hour
INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.
Internship Period: June 3 – August 5
Total Weeks: 9 weeks
Work Hours per Week: 28
Total Hours: 252
Workdays: & Hours: 10AM–5PM, 4 days per week
PROGRAM DAY:
On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.
These hours are separate from the internship hours.
