The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Technician II to join our Guilford Engineering team.
In this role, you will
- Work independently reviewing design plans for driveway permits, encroachment agreements and subdivisions in the office and on sites to ensure proposed work meets NCDOT standards and specifications.
- Contact engineering firms, local and state government offices, and private entities to make revisions as needed.
- Conduct follow-up inspections to check work progress, completion, and final inspections for bond releases.

- Excellent communication skills to establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and duties.
- Ability to document and take some corrective actions.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to manually and electronically complete daily diaries, survey notes, and other recordkeeping.
- Math skills to perform construction calculations.
- Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
- Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad data entry.
- Demonstrated ability to lead coworkers on assigned tasks.
- Computer experience using iPad apps and computer software.
- Ability to acquire certifications, including QMS Asphalt, Concrete Testing, Borrow Pit Sampling and MSHA Certifications.
- Strength to lift 40-50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
- Fitness to climb uneven terrain.
- Ability to work at night and weekends, if necessary.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Education & Experience
- Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
- 2+ years of engineering technician experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
