Community Engagement Associate: Communication Studies Course Support

DUE is home to IEL which is sponsoring these types of positions across campus. This specific position is part of the Community Engagement Associates program in which students work in a specific department on campus to support campus and community engagement initiatives. Course/Curriculum Support CEA

The Course/Curriculum Support CEA works directly with a faculty or staff mentor to support the integration of community engagement/service learning in at least one course or in the development of program curricula. In a course/curriculum support role, the employee should demonstrate critical reflection and self-direction to effectively coordinated or co-lead class discussions and/or community partner meetings. Leadership and intuition are necessary to fulfill technical and administrative tasks, research pedagogical strategies/learning theories, and assist with course preparation and assessment. Work may include but is not limited to collecting information and maintaining records, practicing written and oral communication with students and community partners, and assisting with class reflection and discussion.

Project Summary and Goals:

The CEA will support the service learning and civic engagement initiatives in the Department of Communication Studies. The student will assist with assessment and formative research related to civic engagement and service learning in the department. Tasks will include designing, distributing, and analyzing surveys and conducting interviews and/or focus groups with students and faculty in the Department of Communication Studies as well as the department’s service learning community partners. 

Positions, Duties, and Tasks:

Responsibilities will include interacting with community partners, faculty and, and students, attending project team meetings, and providing problem-solving support. The role requires strong organizational, time management, and communication skills, as well as a passion for community engagement. Preferred qualifications include experience with survey design, interviewing and/or facilitating focus groups.

Availability needed for the CEA schedule:

Requires 5-10 hours of availability weekly. Some tasks will require on campus availability; some tasks could be completed off campus (within the state of Indiana only).
