Chemistry/Biochemistry Technician
Symbio Bioculinary is seeking an enthusiastic chemistry/biochemistry technician to join our team. This position will assist with food chemistry research and development. Our research is focused on fermentation bioengineering for the development of novel microbial foods from food manufacturing waste. As an early-stage biotechnology startup, this position provides the opportunity to gain hands on experience throughout the entire development pipeline, gain diverse technical experience, and play an important role in our team.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced early stage startup environment, is highly independent, resourceful and organized, and is passionate about fermentation, food science and sustainability.
Duties include: laboratory work (including instrumental analysis, chemical analysis and assay development) as well as research and product development.
Also included in work responsibilities:
- Assisting with new product development for novel fermented foods.
- Laboratory work including:
- Assay and bioassay development.
- Chemical and metabolomic analysis via GC/MS.
- Enzyme extraction and purification.
- Organic compound quantification and derivitization.
- Safety and quality control testing.
- Researching and synthesizing literature for SOP development, safety and compliance.
- Supporting technical and business tasks.
- Interfacing with clients and other stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience in organic chemistry and biochemistry (food chemistry, organic chemistry or biochemistry are ideal).
- Have a basic knowledge of microbiology and microbial bioengineering.
- Have some previous research or wet lab experience.
- Be interested in fermentation, food science and sustainable food.
- Be comfortable reading and synthesizing academic literature from across disciplines.
- Be highly independent, motivated, resourceful and organized.
- Work well in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
