Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair

The Archer School for Girls is accepting applications for Archer’s Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair beginning July 2025. Department Chairs serve as educational leaders, instructional coaches, and academic administrators who partner actively with all constituents to 1) uphold standards for transformational teaching and learning, 2) steward Archer’s professional culture, and 3) amplify the School’s purpose and position as a thought leader on how girls learn and thrive. In addition to teaching 2-3 classes, the Visual and Performing Arts Chair also serves as the production manager for all public-facing events on campus, including but not limited to plays, musicals, concerts, open houses, and more. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Supervise the Visual Arts and Performing Arts Department
  • Serve as production manager for all public-facing events on campus, including but not limited to plays, musicals, concerts, open houses, commencement, and more
  • Hire and supervise guest artists and vendors to support productions and other campus events
  • Teach 2-3 classes arts classes in area of expertise
  • Direct and/or support all Arts events and performances
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom and departmental environment
  • Manage the annual Arts budget, including expenditures for performances and staffing
  • Commitment to continuous professional development
  • Serve as a mentor/advisor to students

Qualifications: 

  • Possesses a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in the Arts or Arts Education
  • Has a minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience at the middle or secondary level
  • Significant experience in production management and technical theatre
  • Strong pedagogical expertise with knowledge of student-centered teaching practices
  • Related leadership experience 
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge 
  • Collaborates well with colleagues within planning teams 
  • Actively engages in self-reflection, seeks constructive feedback, and embraces professional growth
  • Enthusiastic about participating in interdisciplinary projects with other teachers and departments

Salary range: $95,000 - $150,000 annually (depending on qualifications and experience)
