Adventure Academy Lead Counselor
Adventure Academy Lead Counselors are role models for campers and Camp Counselors. They are problem solvers and take the initiative to support camp staff. They are responsible for running challenge course activities and traditional summer camp activities like games, archery, and creeking expeditions. Their unique skills and positive attitude are the secret ingredients that create a special experience for campers and staff.
II. Essential Responsibilities
- Complete spring adventure elements training and role specific training, to be scheduled after hire
- Participate in pre-camp training (dates M-F June 2 through June 13, 2025)
- Camp runs weekdays, June 16 through August 8, 2025.
- Limited opportunities for time off during the camp season
- Facilitate camp activities, including team-building games and initiatives, crafts, hiking and creeking, awards and recognitions, and other activities.
- Fill in as a substitute camp counselor or camp director when needed
- Actively manage camper behavior and apply age-appropriate management techniques when necessary.
-Lead by setting an excellent example for other counselors and campers.
- Collaborate with camp directors, counselors, and the Youth Camps Supervisor to deliver a safe, friendly, and high-energy camp program to enrolled campers.
-Engage parents/guardians in brief conversations and address any concerns at drop off and pick up
- Engage with directors, counselors, and parents regarding concerns, challenges, and pertinent updates on campers.
- Alongside the Section Coordinator, Conduct Morning and Afternoon check-in meetings with staff daily.
- Follow agency operating procedures and safety protocols
- Submit all paperwork promptly, including incident reports.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid training (provided by CMO May 29th and 30th 8:00 AM – 12 PM, must attend both days for successful completion of course.)
- Successful completion of related certifications (offered post.)
- Perform other duties as assigned

IV. Work Experience and Education
- High school diploma
- 18+ years old
- Prior work experience in summer camps, challenge courses, or customer service preferred
- Requires satisfactory background check
- CPR/First Aid certification (offered during training)
V. Physical and Mental Requirements
- After completion of training, be able to demonstrate the ability to safely set up adventure activities, deliver safety instructions, and belay campers during activities.
- Ability to perform duties while outdoors and exposed to a variety of weather conditions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to spend approximately 90% of the time on the job standing, bending, and lifting
- Ability to convey a sense of fun while leading a learning activity
- Strong communication skills with temperament and ability to convey information to individuals at all levels of skill development and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to act quickly and decisively in emergencies
- Strong work ethic and high level of trust
- Self-starter with strong self-directing and time management skills
- Ability to learn techniques and procedures
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in formal and informal settings
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
