Psychology -NetVUE Internship at Gaudenzia - Governmental Affairs Intern (Summer 2025)

Job Summary:

The intern will be under the direction of the Gaudenzia Director of Government Affairs. The intern will learn about and experience the many facets of a government relations department in a non-profit organization. The department works to establish or enhance relationships working with federal, state and local government officials and advocacy groups. The goal is to further Gaudenzia’s legislative goals, by creating policy proposals and working in partnership with appropriate agencies and the local community. This internship can be tailored to the needs and skills of the applicant since government affairs touches all part of Gaudenzia.
This is a temporary, non-benefit eligible, non-exempt position as defined by FLSA standards.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Participate in lobbying meetings and understanding the issues discussed.
  • Visit several of Gaudenzia’s local programs to understand how a licensed substance use disorder program works.
  • Program visits may include observing an open 12-step meeting or a Yoga of 12-Step Recovery session
  • Observe and participate in Gaudenzia media events
  • Attend a legislative meeting in the Harrisburg Capital

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to commute to downtown Harrisburg
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have basic computer proficiency
  • Candidate must be flexible and able to adjust schedule changes as needed
  • Ability to work effectively with other members of the team
  • Students interested in governmental advocacy and affairs will be given preference.

 

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop and demonstrate effective communication skills when working with various agencies external stakeholders, community members, and professional organizations.
  • Exhibit professionalism and flexibility when interacting with individuals at various events, and legislative meetings
  • Build professional competency in a professional environments by collaborating with other professionals to provide support and collaboration.

 

Location:         
This student worker position is located off SU campus.

 

Education          
First year, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior. All Majors

 

Experience

No previous experience required.

Additional Requirements:      

This position is paid $15.00 per hour, with an estimate of 40 hours weekly.

 

Physical Demand

Position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
