This position offers exposure to all aspects of operations within a progressive and successful municipal animal shelter. This position will help further develop skills in leadership, teamwork, customer service, problem solving, and more. The chosen candidate will assist with the logistics and management of a robust volunteer program with a diverse volunteer force. They will also work directly with dogs, cats, and other animals who are navigating shelter life. This position positively impacts the community as a whole by providing customer service to the general public, as well as connecting homeless animals with new owners and families. It also offers a wealth of knowledge regarding how to handle animal-related situations such as lost and found animals, animal emergencies, and more.
Duties

Essential (primary)
Evaluates the current training process and materials for efficiency and effectiveness.
Drafts presentations and creates/edits existing written materials to improve the overall training.
Identifies resources to assist with continuing education in this area to share with volunteers.
Explores Volgistics database for best method to share emails/photos from past adopters through the email function within this volunteer software. Once identified, will draft detailed instructions for future volunteers/interns to utilize.
Job Requirements
Required
Equivalent to a High School Diploma.
A current driver's license.
Interest in animal welfare and willingness to learn how to effectively and safely work with all species in a shelter environment.
Preferred
Animal experience, formal or informal.
Public Speaking.
Experience coaching, tutoring or training.
Experience volunteering or working with volunteers.

Performs duties both indoors and out of doors in varied weather conditions and is exposed to hazards associated with the handling of frightened, vicious, and/or diseased animals. Incumbent is subject to threat of exposure to rabies, animal feces, and bodily fluids, animal diseases that can be contagious to humans, external and internal parasites, and to toxic substances, such as disinfectants and corrosive cleaners. Incumbent is subject to exposure to animals that may be aggressive or in poor health condition.
