Construction Project Engineer/Manager Internship
This Internship takes place on site TBD. The nature of work includes: Coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager(s); performs accounting activities; performs estimating functions as requested; and performs other duties as assigned. Paid internship. Willing to work with school on scholastic credit programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager(s) which may include:
- Assists/conducts weekly job meetings and prepares meeting minutes for approval by Project Manager.
- Identifies and resolves potential problems regarding documents.
- Assists with overall project schedules.
- Prepares job update reports for owners.
- Takes progress photos as needed.
- Assists with tracking material deliveries.
- Expedites and reviews shop drawings.
- Maintains shop drawing log.
- Coordinates daily construction process with team.
- Reviews weekly labor reports with Superintendent.
- Prepares and updates submittal logs, RFI logs, and change order logs.
- Performs timely completion of project close out activities.
- Performs minimal buy out on small/non-custom jobs and assists with material expediting.
- Performs accounting activities:
- Prepares job update reports.
- Drafts purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
- Reviews and approves invoices for Project Management approval.
- Updates job cost report.
- Tracks project budget.
- Assists with purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders, and correspondence to Project Manager(s) for approval.
- Performs estimating functions as requested:
- Prepares solicitation lists of subs and suppliers.
- Prepares bid packages.
- Tabulates and evaluates bids.
- Performs quantity survey and initial pricing of estimate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES / SKILLS
- Positive attitude and proactive approach.
- Knowledge of basic phases of construction projects.
- Knowledge of scheduling and quantity surveys.
- Knowledge of mathematics functions (geometry, basic algebra).
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to read plans and identify changes or discrepancies in plans and schedules.
- Excellent organizational skills and a very high attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to proficiently communicate verbally and in writing using the English language.
- Ability to work on site in Logan, UT.
EDUCATION
- Currently enrolled in a 4 year degree program pertaining to Construction, Engineering or related field.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
- Candidate may be asked to work weekends or work an alternate full-time schedule.
- Occasionally candidate will be asked to work in harsh environments such as hot or cold weather conditions, dust and some possible hazardous conditions.
- Drug & Alcohol testing required.
