Construction Project Engineer/Manager Internship

This Internship takes place on site TBD.  The nature of work includes: Coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager(s); performs accounting activities; performs estimating functions as requested; and performs other duties as assigned.  Paid internship.  Willing to work with school on scholastic credit programs.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinates project activities with guidance from Project Manager(s) which may include:
    1. Assists/conducts weekly job meetings and prepares meeting minutes for approval by Project Manager.
    2. Identifies and resolves potential problems regarding documents.
    3. Assists with overall project schedules.
    4. Prepares job update reports for owners.
    5. Takes progress photos as needed.
    6. Assists with tracking material deliveries.
    7. Expedites and reviews shop drawings.
    8. Maintains shop drawing log.
    9. Coordinates daily construction process with team.
    10. Reviews weekly labor reports with Superintendent.
    11. Prepares and updates submittal logs, RFI logs, and change order logs.
    12. Performs timely completion of project close out activities.
    13. Performs minimal buy out on small/non-custom jobs and assists with material expediting.
  2. Performs accounting activities:
    1. Prepares job update reports.
    2. Drafts purchase orders, subcontracts, and change orders.
    3. Reviews and approves invoices for Project Management approval.
    4. Updates job cost report.
    5. Tracks project budget.
    6. Assists with purchase orders, subcontracts, change orders, and correspondence to Project Manager(s) for approval.
  3. Performs estimating functions as requested:
    1. Prepares solicitation lists of subs and suppliers.
    2. Prepares bid packages.
    3. Tabulates and evaluates bids.
    4. Performs quantity survey and initial pricing of estimate.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES / SKILLS 

  • Positive attitude and proactive approach.
  • Knowledge of basic phases of construction projects.
  • Knowledge of scheduling and quantity surveys.
  • Knowledge of mathematics functions (geometry, basic algebra).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read plans and identify changes or discrepancies in plans and schedules.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a very high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to proficiently communicate verbally and in writing using the English language.
  • Ability to work on site in Logan, UT.

EDUCATION 

  • Currently enrolled in a 4 year degree program pertaining to Construction, Engineering or related field.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
  • Candidate may be asked to work weekends or work an alternate full-time schedule.
  • Occasionally candidate will be asked to work in harsh environments such as hot or cold weather conditions, dust and some possible hazardous conditions.
  • Drug & Alcohol testing required.
