Marketing & Communications Intern

PIDC is governed by a thirty-member Board of Directors, appointed by the Mayor of Philadelphia and the President of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.  The staff includes approximately 60 full-time employees, and PIDC’s current 12-member senior leadership team has a combined 150+ years of experience at PIDC.  The organization’s annual budget of approximately $12M is funded by a combination from fees generated by PIDC’s transaction activities, service and management contracts, and contributed revenue.

Over the past 65+ years, PIDC has settled over 13,300 transactions with a diverse range of clients – including more than $19.5 billion of financing and 3,400 acres of land sales – which have leveraged tens of billions of dollars in total investment and assisted in retaining and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs in Philadelphia. Position Overview & Responsibilities:

The Marketing & Communications Intern will assist with the implementation of strategies and tactics to enhance PIDC’s brand awareness, contributing to our overall communications strategy and social media efforts. This includes CMS management, content creation for PIDC marketing materials (including blog and monthly newsletter), client outreach, market research, and other support for initiatives across the Marketing-Communications department. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Undertake research related to new marketing strategies and best practices
  • Assist in the creation of content for PIDC’s e-newsletter, blog, intranet, and social media channels
  • Support ad hoc marketing projects, including writing, researching, and blog categorization
  • Develop and execute a video social media strategy, including planning, scripting, shooting, editing, and optimizing short-form video content tailored to each social media platform’s best practices
  • Work on targeted review collection strategies and marketing email campaigns
  • Assist in the execution of webinars, in-person events, and other outreach efforts targeting PIDC audiences
  • Monitor, report on, and analyze traffic and trends on PIDC’s websites and social media platforms to achieve key business goals, and offer recommendations to improve engagement and increase traffic
  • Research, write, and implement an internal communication campaign for the PIDC intranet
  • Assist with updating, and maintaining website image database with alt tags, descriptions, and captions
  • Conduct data entry as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications & Experience:       

  • Undergraduate or graduate student with relevant work experience and/or coursework in marketing and communications, public relations, advertising, business, or other related communications or economic development fields
  • Experience with various social media channels and content creation skills, including vertical video content shot on a smartphone
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is a plus but not required
  • Be self-sufficient, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and be able to prioritize and organize various projects
  • Be a creative thinker and problem solver
