Students Against Violence Peer Educator

Make a positive impact on our campus by becoming a Students Against Violence Peer Educator! Students Against Violence is a peer education program of the Health Promotion Services office that works to prevent violence on campus. Peer educators aim to help foster a more positive sexual, social, and relational climate on campus.

Peer Educators will plan campus-wide initiatives, co-develop presentation content and materials for presentations and events, co-facilitate violence prevention training to peers across campus, provide resources, and promote and model a healthy lifestyle. Health topics covered include sexual violence, interpersonal violence, stalking, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, consent, and sexual health. This position will be part of the Students Against Violence peer educator team and work collaboratively with Health Promotion Services staff. 

Basic Requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student enrolled full-time at Texas State
  • Maintain a minimum of 2.5 GPA
  • Attend the majority of SAV meetings (Mondays, 5-6 PM)
  • Attend the majority of peer educator meetings (weekly, TBD)
  • Attend the majority of outreach events
  • Attend scheduled office hours each week

SAV Peer Educators will:

  • Plan, implement, and lead Students Against Violence weekly meetings and programs.
  • Facilitate health presentations across campus, including content around sexual and interpersonal violence, stalking, and sexual harassment.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of violence prevention outreach events.
  • Coordinate logistics of Students Against Violence including tracking participant attendance, adding interested students to Canvas site, etc.
  • Assist with entering health presentation and attendance data.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Supervision and Evaluation:

SAV peer educators are supervised by Marisa Montelongo, Health Promotion Specialist. All Health Promotion Services peer educators are evaluated in a one-on-one meeting before the conclusion of each semester.

Pay Rate:

SAV peer educators are paid $10.00/hour as a starting rate. An hourly pay increase may occur annually, as determined by University Health Services’ annual budget.
