Youth and Sustainability Programs Intern

OVERVIEW:

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis seeks a Youth and Sustainability Programs Intern to join our Sustainability and Youth Programs Manager. In this role, you will support our youth and sustainability programming by researching sustainability topics and assisting in the evaluation and development of engaging educational programs. This internship provides a hands-on, project-based experience, contributing to programs such as Kids Science Camp, Earth Fest, a teen leadership workshop, and the Juneteenth Jamboree.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research environmental sustainability topics and assist staff in developing compelling program content.
  • Track and evaluate programs and activities related to environmental sustainability, providing thoughtful feedback and activity suggestions.
  • Assist with the preparations and logistics for Kids Science Camp. Evaluate Kids Science Camp activities and provide feedback to support the 2026 camp year. Support Kids Science Camp family reception logistics.
  • Support relationship with museum partner, The Heritage Group, during Kids Science Camp planning and delivery.
  • Monitor the camp environment to ensure a safe and clean learning space.
  • Document work processes and create a manual for future interns, including best practices and tips.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in education, sustainability, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • Experience working with elementary-age children is required; additional experience with teens is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and research skills.
  • Experience in providing exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Canva, and PowerPoint.
  • Availability: Must be available for Kids Science Camp from July 14-18.
