Fighting Pretty is an emotional support nonprofit organization on a mission to help all women battling cancer feel strong and beautiful. We provide emotional support, education, community and care packages to women, regardless of cancer type or stage of treatment and/or survivorship.

COMMS & EVENTS INTERN JOB SUMMARY 

The Comms & Events intern will play a key role in supporting our events and operations. The Comms & Events intern will report to the Content Manager and Events Coordinator, while also working closely with the Operations and Outreach departments. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual interested in learning more about nonprofit fundraising and event planning, content development and communication strategies across the nonprofit. The internship offers exciting hands-on experience and the opportunity to gain new skills. By the end of this internship, you will have assisted with multiple events and campaigns, along with supporting the Fighting Pretty team and furthering the organization’s mission.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Assist in ensuring proactive planning, communication and scheduling of a wide variety of events including packing parties, fundraisers, volunteer events, and virtual events.
  • Assist in the program content development for events, solicit sponsors, create and coordinate the drafting/distribution of promotional materials, sell tickets 
  • Assist in managing pre- and on-site logistics for all events and programs  
  • Work with Marketing to plan and execute all marketing activities necessary to ensure successful events and strategic campaigns
  • Participate in planning committee meetings including taking and distributing notes  
  • Monitor the special events content on the website and social media sites to ensure they are updated  
  • Secure event sponsorships and donations
  • Assist with donor acknowledgement and guest follow-up 
  • Assist with packing and preparing website orders for distribution.
  • Participate in inventory of supplies and merchandise as needed
  • Additional responsibilities as needed
     

QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment and still meet deadlines  
  • Dynamic self-starter who takes initiative, highly reliable  
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal and follow- up skills  
  • Proactive problem prevention and issue resolution leadership ability  
  • Polished and professional when dealing with members, prospective members, sponsors, and executive management  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Proficiency with Google and G-suite programs
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation

 

INTERNSHIP DETAILS

This is an unpaid internship, with the expectation of approximately 10-15 hours per week of work. Some work can be done remotely, some will need to be in person at the Fighting Pretty office or event sites. Attendance at all staff meetings is mandatory, along with various other planning/committee meetings. You will need to provide your own laptop and transportation.
