The Iron County School District is seeking a Full Time High School Assistant Principal to work at Cedar High School. This position will begin July 1, 2025.

The High School Assistant Principal, assists the school principal under the direction of the Executive Director of Secondary Programs has both the responsibility and the authority to supervise, direct and coordinate all services, operations and programs in the assigned school; to assure that proper standards and procedures are followed; to promote and maintain the integrity and effectiveness of the school, it’s purposes, functions and of it’s staff; to plan, develop, and implement instructional goals, objectives, and procedures for evaluating program effectiveness; to plan, develop, and conduct staff development and staff training programs and activities; to plan and conduct public and community relations programs.

  • Develops and evaluates educational programs to ensure conformance to state and School Board standards and policies.
  • Initiates and directs a process for collaboratively developing and communicating a vision for the school
  • Articulates goals and policies as appropriate to staff, students, parents and the community.
  • Ensure the quality of instructional and support staff through careful interviewing and hiring practices, through careful evaluation and due process procedures and through effective and purposeful staff development activities. 
  • Creates and monitors clear expectations for teams in implementing processes embedded in the school improvement plan. Collectively leads the processes of learning within the school to include the creation of weekly time for teams to collaborate; flexible time for extra learning opportunities; and the sustainment of a school culture committed to student learning.
  • Monitors conduct of teachers and staff in compliance with district policy. Takes appropriate administrative action as necessary. 
  • Keeps the superintendent fully advised as to the conditions and needs of the school and submit reports as they may be requested and perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent.
  • Adopt/Develop a student management and instructional program which promotes order; safety and well being; positive, caring relationships; responsibility and accountability; initiative and confidence among students. 
  • Supervise the implementation, scope, sequence and focus of curriculum to ensure it’s highest quality and effectiveness. 
  • Provide direction and facilitate the development and improvement of quality instructional skills and techniques for all instructional staff. 
  • Direct maintenance and custodial staff in providing quality care, safety, maintenance and improvement of school facilities, equipment and grounds. 
  • Take proper measures to ensure the security of buildings, equipment and materials assigned to the school. 
  • Monitor and supervise use of building, facilities and equipment by non-school groups. 
  • Provide clear and appropriate expectations, staff assignments and supervision for all employees in the school. 
  • Place students in classes and special programs appropriate to their needs and best educational advantage.
  • Develops and administers educational programs for students with mental or physical disabilities. 
  • Promote, develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with parents, parent teacher organizations, volunteers, school business partners, the community, district office staff and other agencies. 
  • Manage school budgets and district budgets assigned to the school according to prescribed policies and procedures. 
  • Administers and provides oversight for activities conducted by any student organization of the school, provided that such activities are sponsored by the school and the principal. 
  • Requisitions and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional material as needed
  • Abide by the code of ethics written by the Utah Professional Practices Commission and endorsed by the Utah State Board of Education. 
  • Accept and fill additional district assignments as requested. 
  • Submit in a timely manner all reports and other information requested by the District Office and other government agencies. 
  • Maintain a complete and accurate inventory of district owned assets as required. 
  • Organize school resources to provide for adequate student supervision. 
  • Conduct appropriate emergency preparedness training activities. 
  • Supervise the student testing and assessment program in the school as required by the district and the state. 
  • Follow appropriate acquisition procedures in purchasing school equipment and supplies. 
  • Attend school sponsored evening activities.
  • Attends meetings called by the Superintendent of schools.
  • Must have basic computer knowledge, be familiar with Google docs and check email frequently. Must be willing to learn and use all computer systems and software as needed.
  • Regular, reliable, predictable attendance and job performance is required
