Community Sail and Swim Director

POSITION TYPE: Full Time Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Executive Director

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Sail & Swim Director is responsible for all aspects of North Coast Community Sailing (NCCS) operations, and the Bay Area Swim Team (BAST). 

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passion to serve others.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with the public and coworkers to promote a safe and  positive environment.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk around frequently and lift up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform essential functions. 
  • Ability to supervise activities of other people, give directions, and enforce RFR policies.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED/FA for Professional Rescuer (or approved equivalent or higher).
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification (or approved equivalent).
  • US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Level 1 or higher (or approved equivalent).
  • USA Swim Coaching Certificate
  • Current Certified Pool Operator Certification accepted by the State of Wisconsin.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of North Coast Community Sailing and Bay Area Swim Team.
  • Ensure waterfront safety, including developing and implementing Emergency Action Plans; training staff; managing safety and rescue supplies and equipment; responding to situations as they arise; and completing all required documentation.
  • Supervise North Coast Staff Team, including hiring, training, and development.
  • Serve as Head Coach for BAST, lead practices, recruit volunteers and 
  • Plan and run annual pre-season staff training and ongoing development sessions.
  • Develop, implement, update, and manage all NCCS and BAST programming, including curriculum development.
  • Develop, implement, and manage an equipment maintenance and replacement plan including developing and maintaining an accurate and thorough equipment database. 
  • Manage established partnerships  and develop new partnerships.
  • Hire and manage contractors as needed.
  • Develop additional avenues of support. 
  • Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain volunteers.
  • Lifeguard as needed.
  • Assist in ensuring safety at the Bayfield Rec Center including following Emergency Action Plans, responding to situations as they arise; and completing all required documentation.
  • Assist in operating Aquatics Facility in accordance with all city, county, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  • Assist in completing required documentation of Aquatic and HVAC systems.
  • Assist in developing RFR systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Document and report incidents, injuries, complaints, broken equipment, etc as necessary in accordance with RFR policies and procedures.
  • Abide by and uphold all RFR policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with Supervisor.
  • Provide excellent customer service and a safe and fun environment.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and a positive attitude.
  • Fill in other Rec Center roles as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

JOB STRUCTURE AND COMPENSATION

  • During the sailing season, the majority of hours will be spent at the waterfront, though this may vary given organizational needs and priorities.
  • During Swim Season mostly at the Rec Center and travelling to meets on the weekends
  • Membership to the Bayfield Rec Center
  • Half off of all RFR classes and programs
  • Up to 3% matching contribution to Simple IRA.
