Overview of the Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Our lab is seeking a dedicated and well-organized student lab assistant that will assist in weekly lab activities that include:

  • making reagents
  • running experiments
  • collecting samples
  • collecting experimental data 
  • maintaining accurate study records and detailed note-taking

We are looking for someone that can work between 10-20hrs a week.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Must have the ability to communicate thoroughly and timely, while keeping original data records
  • Must have completed one university-level biology or chemistry lab.
  • Must have the ability to work 6hrs+/week.
  • Federal work-study award required.

Learned Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

In accordance with the IUI Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success, experience in this position will help students become acquainted with the following profiles:

  • Communicator: by building relationships with other researchers and collaborators, which will help in building active listening skills. The researcher will also learn to evaluate information and convey ideas effectively, via email, presentations, and record-keeping.
  • Problem Solver: You will also use learn how to think more critically while learning to analyze and evaluate effectively as a problem solver.
  • Innovator: As an innovator, you will learn to investigate new research proposals as well as helping to create presentations, data sets, and protocol development.
  • Community Contributor: Lastly, as a community contributor, you will learn the ethics of research, understand and anticipate consequences while engaging and merging in the research culture with your own.
