IT Intern - Public Safety

Nature of Work  
This internship provides an opportunity to gain experience supporting and enhancing user applications, systems, and business processes for public safety both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Interns will be given space to develop business solutions, and work with users to determine needs and expectations, and will assist to provide dependable operation of organizational technology.


Hours and Compensation: The internship will be a minimum 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week, from approximately June-August.  This position will be onsite. The pay rate is $16.81 per hour. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The work below is representative of the scope of work performed within this internship classification. Individual job duties will vary based on work assignment and organizational needs. 

  • Provide creative business solutions to technical opportunities and barriers
  • Work closely with users to determine technical needs and expectations
  • Support the consistent and dependable operation of organizational technology
  • Participate in analysis and enhancement of Emergency Management dashboards, potentially including GIS and Microsoft Teams Emergency Operations Center (EOC) (GitHub project) platforms.
  • Provide technical support during weather related or other EOC activations.
  • Help make improvements/recommendations to the utilization of record and learning management systems, for back-end and front-end users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience  
A high school diploma or the equivalent (GED) and be at least 18 years old.  Be a third year student enrolled in a Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology or closely related field.

A background investigation including fingerprinting is required as a condition of employment.

  • Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD)
  • Experience with: Microsoft 365, Enterprise Applications, Visual Studio, ASP.NET, C#, CSS, HTML, JavaScript, SQL, Webservers, Web Services
