Special Education Teacher - Generalist

Primary Function

The Special Education Teacher - Generalist provides direct and indirect instructional and related services to students age 5-21 with a range of disabilities including but not limited to physical, cognitive, communication, social or emotional, adaptive, and learning disabilities.  They coordinate the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process, provide direct instructional services, maintain records, and teach disability awareness to the students, families, and communities to which they’ve been assigned.  This is a full-time position.

Desired Qualifications

Masters’ Degree in subject area. A minimum of a Bachelor’s in Education.

• Hold or be able to obtain a Colorado Teaching Certificate/Licensing from the Colorado Department of Education and Special Education Generalist License.

Performance responsibilities

Provide case management (oversees special education process)

o Assure and verify that IEP services are implemented in compliance with federal, state, and district regulations

o Assure compliance with special education procedural requirements

o Communicate and coordinate among home, school, and other agencies, and regular and special education programs

o Facilitate placement

o Train classroom staff

o Schedule team meetings

• Develop and implement IEPs

• Assist with developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans

• Provide direct instructional services

• Develop and modify curriculum

• Develop accommodations

• Coordinate appropriate services

• Monitor assessments and progress

• Ensure student safety

• Liaison and consult with teachers, providers, administrators, parents, service agencies, and community

• Train, supervise, and complete Performance Appraisals of Para-Educators

• Delegate related services (OT, speech, vision, hearing)

• Schedule and provide in-class support

• Delegate health care procedures

• Process Medicaid reimbursement

• Maintain incident and health logs and records

• Other duties as assigned
