The Okemos Public Schools is accepting applications for outstanding resource program teacher candidates. This individual will provide instructional support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring that each student has access to a meaningful and inclusive education. The ideal candidate will be an advocate for students with special needs, able to differentiate instruction, and create a positive and supportive learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Michigan teaching certification with a Special Education Endorsement (SA, SB, SC, SE, SK, SL, SM, SP, SV).
- Must be highly qualified to teach in a 5-6 resource program.
- Professional, collaborative, and collegial problem solver.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working with secondary students.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues.
- Connects well with parents/guardians.
- Growth and asset-minded . . . each day is a ‘get-to’ day.
- Demonstrated advocacy for students with disabilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in writing and implementing IEPs.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of a variety of interventions and utilized multiple teaching methods.
- Strong communication skills.
- Highly organized.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students in 5th and 6th grade.
- Provide small group and one-on-one instruction to students with learning disabilities, autism, emotional disturbances, and other special needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure accommodations and modifications are appropriately applied.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting instruction and materials as necessary.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and behavior.
- Participate in IEP meetings, team planning, and professional development activities.
- Foster a safe, positive, and respectful classroom environment that promotes student growth, independence, and self-advocacy.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and behavior.
- Uphold school policies and collaborate with support staff to address the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
