Middle School Dean of Academics (Seattle, WA)
Full Time (1.0 FTE) Salary/Exempt
Academic Year Schedule (August 1, 2025- June 30, 2026)

The Bush School is in search of an individual to join our Middle School team as a Middle School Dean of Academics. We are seeking a candidate who is able to support the school’s mission of diversity and inclusion and who has a background that demonstrates an understanding and appreciation of intercultural fluency. The Middle School Dean of Academics reports to the Middle School Director and works closely with Middle School Faculty and Staff, as well as with students and families. This position includes teaching up to two sections throughout the Academic Year, participating in E-lectives and end-of-year E-weeks, and serving as an advisor for the Academic Year.
While other duties may be assigned, a qualified candidate will be able to manage the key responsibilities and tasks listed below:
- Support the continual articulation and alignment of a Bush Middle School student's overarching educational program in partnership with the Division Director
- Support the clear communication of standards-based grading practices to student, teachers, and parents/guardians, ensuring a shared understanding of expectations and assessment criteria
- Work with the Division Director to foster faculty growth and development, including serving as instructional coach and supporting teachers in clarifying learning objectives, developing assessment practices, and honing instructional practices
- Lead interdisciplinary alignment of academic and co-curricular programs
- Partner with the learning specialist and team to promote differentiation and inclusive pedagogical practices
- Teach at least one section of Middle School classes throughout the Academic Year
- Lead an advisory of Middle Schools students throughout the Academic Year
- Continually assess the program's consideration and incorporation of sound diversity, equity, and inclusion practices
- Coordinate with the student support team to address student needs, considering the intersection of academic, behavioral, social, and emotional support Lead weekly team meeting for one grade level
- Remain up to date on best practices and current research in education
- Facilitate professional growth opportunities for faculty
- Develop and nurture collaborative partnerships with all members of the middle school community (colleagues, students, and families)
- Attend school-related events outside the scheduled school day, including admissions events
- Other duties as assigned and needed for successful implementation of the Middle School program
Experience and Professional Competencies:
- Experience in working with Middle School students and faculty – leadership experience is preferred and a minimum of 5 years of teaching is required
- A bachelor’s degree is required

- Have proficient skills in the use of technology, including, but not limited to Mac or Windows OS, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and relevant cloud-based tools
Additional Requirements:
- Have a current Adult and Children CPR, First Aid and AED Certification (or receive one soon after hire date)
- Meet the school’s standards when completing two separate background screenings
Compensation/Benefit Information for this position:
- Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000
