School Counselor
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree or higher with eligibility for a Georgia certificate in School Counseling.
- A minimum of three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher is preferred.
- Advanced skills in human relations, leadership, and group management.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support and leadership in delivering comprehensive counseling pertaining to academics, career, and life skill concerns, coordinating guidance-related programs and activities, and consulting with appropriate stakeholders.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops a written school-based guidance plan based on student needs.
2. Provides individual and group counseling services to students in areas of academic, personal, and social development.
3. Coordinates with school staff to provide supportive instructional classroom guidance activities that relate to students: educational, career, and personal needs.
4. Assists with the maintenance of the permanent record system and helps provide information for the placement.
5. Oversee professional responsibilities by working cooperatively with the school administrator, other support personnel, teachers, staff, and parents.
6. Implements a comprehensive and developmental guidance and counseling curriculum to assist all students.
7. Assists students in their transitions to the next educational level.
8. Provide crisis counseling when appropriate.
9. Assists students with skill-building to achieve self-improvement.
10. Consults with school or system staff about issues, problems, and concerns involving students, as needed or when requested.
11. Assists in developing a plan for improving the learning environment.
12. Coordinates the Student Support Team in the process concerning the placement and referral of students with special educational needs.
13. Consults with parents on school-student related concerns (attendance, grades, behavior, etc.)
14. Consults with school and system staff in making referrals to community agencies.
15. Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board procedures.
16. Coordinates RTI Behavior with the PBIS team. Helps with identification, placement, and interventions of students.
17. Coordinates the Section 504s. Coordinates the evaluations and implementation of plans; responsible for yearly meetings with parents and teachers; responsible for coding in Infinite Campus.
18. Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
