Sailing Instructor – Seasonal
Rate: $13.00/hour – starting rate based on prior experience and education
Location: Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park, Fairport Harbor, OH 44077
Position Description:
Under direction of the Outdoor Education Manager, the Sailing Instructor assists with program delivery for the Spirit of America and park sponsored boating camps and programs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assists in sailboat maintenance/rigging equipment and maintains a clean, safe and a fully operational environment.
- Assists with special events and/or programs when required.
- Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ohio Boaters Education Course must be completed by start of the boating season.
- 1-2 years’ experience in sailing required.
Position Requirements:
- Ability to remain calm and comfortable in and around the open water.
- Basic knowledge of small sailboats, RS Quest and Lasers and 14’, 16’ Hobie Catamarans.
- Ability to operate a 12’ inflatable safety boat with a 9.9 motor.
- Skilled in coaching and rescue.
- Excellent presentation and verbal and written communications skills.
- Ability to stimulate interest and excitement about program subject and the park district in visitors and other staff.
- Ability to interact with others with tact and courtesy and maintain integrity and appropriate behavior in dealing with conflicts and challenges with the public, co-workers, and managers.
- Proficiency in computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Variable work schedule, up to 40 hours per week.
- May be occasionally required to work flexible hours, weekends, evenings and holidays.
- Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy. Background check required.
