Statistician / Data Scientist

Statistician / Data Scientist (Part Time, 15-20 hours per week) 

Future Energy Enterprises, LLC (FutEE), is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Statistician or Data Scientist to join our growing team in a part-time position. In this role, you will play a crucial part in enhancing our industry-leading data platform—the California electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM)—that is instrumental in achieving clean energy goals in the state of California and supporting energy affordability for homes and businesses across the state. 

 

Overview 

This position will support FutEE’s management and facilitation of the California Technical Forum (Cal TF). The Cal TF is a collaborative of experts who use independent professional judgment and a transparent, technically robust process to review and issue technical information related to California’s integrated demand side management (IDSM) portfolio. The California electronic Technical Reference Manual (eTRM) is an online application that serves as the repository for all statewide deemed measures for California. The state-of-the art, best-in-class platform—developed by Cal TF with invaluable stakeholder input—ensures the accuracy, transparency, and accessibility of all deemed measure values, and is intended to streamline the program design and reporting workflow.  

 

Job Description 

The Statistician / Data Scientist will support Cal TF’s management and analysis of large data sets supporting California’s energy efficiency initiatives.  

Responsibilities include: 

  • Develop, document, and implement rule sets, algorithms, and recommendations using statistical/data science approaches to streamline large datasets related to clean energy measures—i.e., consolidating eTRM measure permutations based on pre-defined rules or statistical algorithms.  
  • Conduct comprehensive uncertainty analyses to quantify and characterize uncertainties associated with data collection, input parameters, modeling, and calculation outputs. 
  • Collaborate with engineers, scientists, and data analysts to identify key variables, define statistical assumptions, and interpret analysis results. 
  • Develop/maintain comprehensive documentation of statistical methodologies, assumptions, and results. 
  • Present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field. 
  • Strong theoretical understanding and practical experience with significance testing, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), regression analysis, and other statistical modeling techniques. 
  • Proficiency in statistical software packages such as R, Python (with NumPy, SciPy, Pandas), or SAS. 
  • Experience with uncertainty analysis methods (e.g., Monte Carlo simulation, sensitivity analysis). 
  • Knowledge of data management and manipulation techniques. 
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. 

Preferred, but not required: 

  • Experience with large datasets 
  • Familiarity with clean energy technologies, energy efficiency measures, and related data sources 
  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

Location 

Berkeley, California. Must be willing to travel to office location in Berkeley to collaborate in-person.
