The International Student Advisor will work directly with students, faculty, and staff to support a successful and positive experience for NAU international students. International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) works with students on immigration questions prior to, and upon their arrival at NAU during Orientation, and acts as their guide throughout their time on NAU's beautiful Flagstaff Mountain campus, helping them navigate immigration regulations, academic adjustments, and cultural integration. ISSS also works with university departments to bring J-1 research scholars and international employees to campus, enhancing the research environment on campus and supporting their experience while in Flagstaff. This position is fully in-person on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus.
The International Student Advisor provides individual student advising relating to immigration status, changes in immigration regulations, compliance, university enrollment, and general topics relating to cultural adjustment and life at a US university. This role is expected to independently follow established F1 and/or J1 procedures to accurately report and maintain university regulatory compliance with DHS/DOS; lead and support programming efforts; act as an advocate for international students at the university to support a positive experience. This position acts as a DSO and ARO for the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and for this reason needs to be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
Advising - 60%
- Advising for F-1 and/or J-1 students.
- Independently advise students on academic support resources, university resources, adjustment issues, personal and family concerns, and in emergency situations.
- Provide communications regarding regulatory updates with the student community to support their understanding of how to comply with government regulations.
- Advise sponsored international students specifically to meet their needs as a sponsored student and provide access to specialized resources.
- Review academic progress of sponsored students, communicate academic progress with sponsors and develops programs and services to enhance student success.
- Process insurance waivers for international sponsored students according to university policy each fall and spring semester.
- Manage data and required documentation that must be provided to sponsoring agencies.
Immigration and SEVIS Records and Compliance,Sunapsis Software Management - 35%
- Conducts immigration compliance analysis, supports the compliance work of all CIE units utilizing Sunapsis, follows up on SEVIS-related data and process compliance issues, maintains daily processes in SEVIS and the Sunapsis batching system, documents all SEVIS and Sunapsis-related processes, and provides training and support for all campus SEVIS and Sunapsis users.
- Shared administration of the Sunapsis software platform, which manages all international scholar, faculty, and student immigration records for the university.
- Serve as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer to support both F-1 and J-1 students.
- Independently advise F-1 and J-1 students to support their compliance with F-1 and J-1 regulations.
- Interpret and implement F-1 and J-1 regulations, and develop institutional policies and procedures together with the ISSS team.
- Support reporting within regulatory deadlines to ensure university SEVIS compliance for new and continuing students and scholars through the use of Sunapsis, Peoplesoft, Salesforce and other technology platforms.
- Maintain data integrity in Sunapsis and Peoplesoft to support university regulatory compliance.

- Perform or participate in other professional tasks as identified by the director or their direct supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- 3-5 years experience in advising
- Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Sunapsis and SEVIS regulations, MS Office suite: Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and Word, Peoplesoft, and Salesforce.
- Experience organizing and facilitating educational, cultural, and social events.
Salary
Salary range begins at $51,085. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
