Engineering Intern

Job Summary

This position, under general supervision of the Sr. Project Engineers, is responsible for assisting in the planning, design, construction and accomplishment of engineering, construction, and maintenance work for the Port; responsible for performing general project administrative and coordination tasks.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with surveying and field measurements
  • Field data collection and inspections
  • Reviews project elements, drawings, and documents
  • Prepares exhibits and correspondence
  • Assists in planning, design, and management of construction projects
  • Maintains a culture of environmental awareness
  • Provides clerical and minor administrative tasks
  • Establishes and maintains necessary office files
  • Adheres to Port policy and maintains good employee relations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

Additional Physical Factors

While performing duties employee is regularly required to sit, speak or hear, use hand finger movements; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach stoop, kneel and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Use of steel toe boots, safety glasses, hard-hat, high-vis vest required in field environments. 

 

Environmental Factors

General office environment/field environment; likely exposure to adverse weather conditions. Candidate shall provide suitable at home/remote work environment, if needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

This is an internship position. Candidates shall be attending an accredited college or university with a major in Engineering, (Civil Engineering preferred but not required); demonstrated written and oral proficiency in the English language; proficiency in Spanish preferred.  Strong writing, editing and speaking skills, organizational and time management skills; ability to operate a personal computer and a variety of programs (AutoCAD, GIS, etc.).  Must deal effectively with Port staff and varying levels of management.
