2025 Strategic Initiatives Summer Intern

Position Summary

Blue Haven is seeking a summer intern to join our Initiatives Portfolio. Blue Haven recognizes that not all impact opportunities can be achieved using market rate capital seeking risk-adjusted-return. As an office focused on pursuing long term impact, we believe deploying a continuum of capital that extends beyond commercial returns unto philanthropic commitments through, grants and catalytic capital, materially contribute to systems level impact. The Initiatives portfolio leverages these philanthropic commitments to drive market level change rooted in the belief that robust markets can create lasting social and environmental impact. The portfolio deploys grants and catalytic capital to partners with a strong intent to (a) building the practice of impact investing, and (b) contributing to solutions addressing market pain points such as closing capital gaps in early climate innovations and supporting diverse emerging asset managers.

The 2025 Strategic Initiatives Summer intern will have an opportunity to engage with the portfolio on the following areas:

  • Investments support - engage on at least one potential catalytic investment or grant commitment from sourcing to the “Investment/Grant Committee” stage. Intern will perform investment due diligence and produce an investment or grant memo and a PowerPoint presentation.
  • Strategic engagement – work with the portfolio director on a “philanthropic investments” handbook documenting Blue Haven’s grants and catalytic approach.
  • Portfolio support – support team in updating internal portfolio processes and documentation including updating portfolio impact from grantees and investees.
  • Market research – lead online market research on specific subject matters (e.g., climate investments, catalytic capital deployment, etc.) to inform team on market developments across the return’s continuum.

The role is a remote position with an expected start of May or early June 2024.

The ideal candidate will check most of the following boxes:

  • Ability to analyze data, conduct research, and distill takeaways into a meaningful strategy.
  • Good judgement and integrity when handling sensitivity associated with philanthropy.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Highly collaborative and inclusive team player.

These qualifications would be great to have, but are not necessary to apply:

  • Mission-alignment and demonstrated interest in social impact, philanthropy, or impact investing.
  • 1–4 years’ work experience in international development, venture investing, consulting, philanthropy, nonprofits, entrepreneurship, or private sector
  • Familiarity with basic project management, and finance principles.
