Invasive Species Monitoring Technician
The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is seeking a technician to assist with the Invasive Species Mitigation monitoring program. The successful candidate will travel with UDAF staff to project areas during the summer months (May-September), experience a variety of different habitats, and conduct vegetation monitoring, including plant identification, photographic methods, line-point intercept, line intercept, plant density and more. This is an excellent opportunity for students and early professionals in Natural Resources, Biology, Botany, or Environmental Sciences to gain practical experience and travel throughout Utah!
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
-Hike long distances carrying a heavy pack (30-50 lbs.)
-Work in adverse weather conditions (high temperatures, rain, wind, snow...) and over difficult terrain (steep mountains, deserts, lake kayaking, mucky wetlands)
-Ability and willingness to follow specific methods and protocols
-Available to travel Monday-Friday during the summer months, frequently camping on location
-Ability to have a flexible schedule and work 40hrs and occasionally more a week
-Use Microsoft Office suite to perform data entry and basic analysis
-Operate a 4x4 vehicle over undeveloped roads
-Positive attitude and strong work ethic
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
-Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress in biology, ecology, botany, rangeland science, wildlife, natural resources, agriculture, general science, or related field.
-Plant identification skills
-Knowledge of GPS and GIS technologies
Compensation will be $18-20 per hour depending on experience and education, plus travel
