
Airport Internship - Design and Construction Management
Job Description Summary
Salt Lake City Department of Airports has an Internship opportunity with our Design and Construction Management team! The successful intern will work on projects that include design and construction of civil and/or facility infrastructure. Typical tasks include support to project managers, construction managers or inspectors during the construction season.
These internships come with the opportunity to learn and perform a wide range of project activities. The position is designed to provide students with paid professional experience to further their education and training and is academically oriented for the student’s benefit.

Positions will terminate upon completion of the internship period. Incumbents may deal with confidential information, which is expected to be maintained as confidential and shared only on a need to know basis with City employees and elsewhere when authorized by the intern’s City supervisor.

Position Hourly Rate:
$19
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Construction inspection of City contracted work. Determine compliance with plans and specifications. Approves and/or rejects contractor’s work. May oversee materials testing.
- Prepares reports of work done, daily logs and project status. Meets periodically with division staff to outline project status or report on project problems.
- Calculates project pricing and payment amounts to be made to contractors.
- Attends construction and division staff meetings.
- Applies standard, accepted engineering principles and best practices.
- Other tasks as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, though summer internships may not require concurrent enrollment if student is in good standing with the educational institution.
- A Civil Engineering or Construction Management student who will complete either BS or MS from an ABET accredited university in the next 18 month.
- Possess a valid driver license.
- Comfortable interacting with contractors and the general public.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Working knowledge of Office 365 products including Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated community service, participation in professional or student groups.
- Recent graduate (last 12 months) are encouraged to apply as well.
- Strong communication skills.

Moderate physical effort, comfortable working conditions, and handling of light weights. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking may be required. Subject to extended exposure to computer visual display terminals
