  1. Create a safe and educationally appropriate environment for instruction.
  2. Instruct students using methodologies that are research-based.
  3. Prepare and carry out daily lesson plans in accordance with each student’s IEP and the Illinois Learning Standards.
  4. Remain current with regard to laws and guidelines pertaining to special education and active case management.
  5. Participate as a collaborative team member with regular education and related service staff members and integrate the necessary services to serve the students most effectively.
  6. Observe, assess, and target specific Autism core deficits for remediation.
  7. Develop instructional methods (steps) to achieve the students’ IEP goals and objectives.
  8. Provide the appropriate environmental conditions to meet the students’ goals and objectives.
  9. Train and supervise the paraprofessional(s) assigned to the applicable classroom.
  10. Maintain accurate attendance and academic records.
  11. Ensure accountability through IEP-based teaching and data collection.
  12. Document student progress by tracking the appropriate goals and objectives.
  13. Delegate the appropriate duties to classroom paraprofessionals in an effort to address the students’ IEP goals and objectives (e.g. grooming, hygiene, constructing PECS, cleaning, making copies, etc.).
  14. Ensure that the students’ fundamental and educational needs are met (e.g. toileting, feeding, etc.).
  15. Collect data and organize information for the Illinois Alternate Assessment (IAA) when applicable.
  16. Develop and appropriately implement student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP).
  17. Seek guidance from other staff members, colleagues, and supervisors as needed.
  18. Prepare paperwork for and actively participate in IEP meetings for the students served.
  19. Develop daily schedules and activities for the students in the applicable classroom.
  20. Assist and guide the students through all aspects of their educational day (e.g. instruction, recess, lunch, bus duty, community outings, etc.).
  21. Appropriately implement Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) principles as needed.
  22. Remain current and updated with regard to the applicable teacher certification issues.
  23. Engage in continuing education and professional development activities in order to stay informed about the most recent issues pertinent to the field.
  24. Participate in program-specific training as required by the supervising administrator.
  25. Abide by all applicable laws and comply with all BASSC policies and procedures (e.g. business department, attendance, computer/internet, schedule, internal paperwork, etc.).
  26. Maintain confidentiality at all times with regard to students and student information.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned.
