TWC Policy, Marketing & Communication - Intern - Office of Employer Commissioner

The Texas Workforce Commission's (TWC) Office of Employer Commissioner is seeking a Policy, Marketing, and Communications Intern to develop and promote projects in support of agency initiatives.

This is a great position for someone who wants to gain real-life experience in public service. Interns will get practical field guidance, feedback, and experience.

 

Who We Are:

TWC Connects people with careers all over the state. While we are headquartered on the north lawn of the Texas State Capitol in Austin, we have offices statewide.

The Office of Employer Commissioner is dedicated to providing services to employers of the State of Texas. Some of the services we are responsible for include:

·        Managing and maintaining an employer hotline and constituent email.

·        Answering employment law questions from employers daily.

·        Producing a quarterly magazine called Texas Business Today, which is a free online informational newsletter covering issues and interest of Texas employers.

·        Publishing the book Especially for Texas Employers, an employment law reference guide with valuable information on a variety of workplace issues.

·        Sponsoring the Texas Business Conferences, a series of employer seminars held each year throughout the state. Employers who attend the seminars learn about state and federal employment laws and the unemployment claim and appeal process.

 

The intern will work in person during schedule hours and is located at TWC's headquarters (101 E. 15th, Austin, TX 78778). 

TWC Internships are full or part-time, temporary positions that are set up usually for three month intervals. We can be flexible on setting your scheduled hours/days (minimum 30 hours and maximum 40 hours per week).

 

What You'll Do:

·        Develop social media posts, marketing ideas and project proposals.

·        Attend Policy Issue meetings and provide summary notes

·        Draft/edit correspondence, information releases, correspondence, event invitations & flyers.

·        Assist with promotion of projects, themes, events, and organizations through social media.

·        Develop mass email message and event invitations.

 

What You'll Earn:

TWC Internships are temporary positions that cannot be filled for more than twenty-four weeks. The internship pays $2600.00 per month at a full-time status and come with some benefits. Minimum hours for this internship will be 20 hours a week.

You'll be part of a team of dedicated public servants who are passionate about promoting their message statewide. You'll learn how a public agency utilizes social media and other communication tools to promote programs and TWC's mission to our fellow Texans.

TWC also has a highly skilled Training and Development Department that offers a wide variety of courses to help our employees grow, both professionally and personally.

 

What You'll Need to Get Hired:

·        Knowledge and usage of social media tools: LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.

·        Effective oral and written communication

·        Ability to conduct research and summarize findings.

·        Ability to rite public policy issues briefs.

·        Ability to maintain confidentiality of material and information.

·        Previous experience or coursework in writing, research, marketing projects, and social media.

 

Other Things We'll be Looking for:

·        Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of GED certification.

·        Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university must be provided.

·        Continued enrollment may be required throughout the internship.
