Summer Conservation Education Internship
Potter Park Zoo's Conservation, Engagement and Learning (CEL) Department is offering four full-time internship positions for the summer. Interns will work alongside CEL staff and Zookambi Summer Camp staff to support the CEL department and programs.
Essential Functions
1. Support Zookambi Summer Camp by assisting with camp extended care, lunch coverage, and covering for camp teachers when needed.
2. Lead daily Conservation Stations and engage with guests about the Zoo’s wildlife and conservation
3. Lead educational tours around the Zoo
4. Assist with Conservation Events by leading education/activity stations
5. Help with on-going projects
6. Assist with the Zoo’s outreach program – Zoo in Your Neighborhood
7. Create and complete an independent project
Qualifications/Experience
1. Have excellent communication skills and a positive, friendly attitude.
2. Must be self-motivated, energetic, adaptable and be able to work on a team.
3. Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in zoology, biology, education, environmental education, conservation science or a related field preferred.
4. Junior/Senior college level students preferred. Relevant experience will be considered if not pursuing a degree.
5. Must enjoy working with people of all ages, ethnicities, race, gender, and backgrounds.
6. Must have an interest in engaging members of the public in conservation education opportunities and place-based learning.
7. Must be able to work inside and outside and tolerate summer weather conditions, most notably heat and humidity.
8. Must pass a background check.
Further Comments
1. This position does not participate in animal husbandry, nor do they have contact with animals.
2. Hours will vary between 7am – 6pm during weekdays, some weekends may be required
3. A stipend of $1,500 will be offered for the duration of the internship
4. First Aid/CPR certification required. Will train if needed.

6. College credit is available; the intern is responsible for obtaining the necessary paperwork and approval from their university.
