Herron Library Part-Time Student Assistant

This part-time hourly position, Herron Library Student Assistant, at the Herron Art Library starts at an hourly rate of $13.00 per hour and is typically up to 15 hours per week.  The position provides valuable understanding and practice with the daily operations and functions of an art and design school library in an academic branch setting.   

 The person in this position provides front-line service to the Herron Library patrons and assists with all daily operations of an art and design school full-service branch library as assigned by the supervisor.   

 Responsibilities include any/all of the following activities as assigned:  

  • Circulation (library materials check-in/check-out, reserves, Interlibrary loan) 20%
  • Collection management (shelving, shelf-reading, inventory, journal check-in) 20%
  • Directional Assistance 30%
  • Reference 5%
  • Digital Collections support (photography, scanning, metadata input, some research) 20%
  • Assistance with the library’s social networking presence 5%

 

The Herron Art Library is a branch library of IUI University Library in Indianapolis, IN.  The Herron Art Library serves the art related teaching and learning needs of the Herron School of Art and Design faculty, students, IUPUI campus, and the general community.  The collections consist of approximately 20,000 volumes, including art journals, DVDs, access to digital collections produced in-house, licensed art databases, and a notable artist book collection.  Many of the items held in the Herron Fine Press and Artist Book Collection may be seen on display in the Artist Book Alcove as well as in our digital version of the collection, The Herron Fine Press and Book Arts Collection.  The Herron Library enjoys a strong web presence through social networking media tools; plays an important role in the DEIJAB and information literacy initiatives of IUI University Library; is committed to initiatives that provide access to art-related information and resources for use in traditional and virtual environments for all persons; and, is actively involved in scholarly communication programs and activities that produce, support, and further teaching and learning at the Herron School of Art and Design and on the IUI campus.
