Intervention Specialist
The Clark County Educational Service Center is seeking an Intervention Specialist to serve the students of Clark County for the 2025-26 school year.
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Job Objectives: Plans, implements, and evaluates student learning experiences using a differentiated curriculum. Helps students manage behavior, identify goals, and make appropriate choices. Encourages parental involvement.
Minimum · Valid Ohio teacher’s license or certificate appropriate for the assignment.
Qualifications: · Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).
· A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
· Complies with drug-free workplace rules and board policies.
· Training and/or experience in behavioral management techniques.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: duties are representative of performance expectations. A reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a qualified individual with a disability to perform essential functions.
· Prepares the assigned instructional area. Promotes the proper use and care of supplies and equipment.
· Teaches classes. Documents teaching objectives. Prepares and implements student IEPs. Creates effective learning experiences. Ensures that lesson plans align with state standards/guidelines.
· Develops written lesson plans according to established procedures. Provides prompt notification of absences. Ensures that class lists and teaching materials are readily available for substitutes.
· Upholds board policies and follows administrative guidelines and procedures.
· Promotes a favorable image of the service center and participating school districts. Supports community partnerships that enhance program services.
· Promotes a full range of educational options. Complies with state model policies and procedures for the education of students identified as having a disability. Works with staff to ensure that services are provided in the least restrictive educational environment.
· Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code. Implements effective pupil management procedures. Prepares a crisis response plan to address aggressive student behavior.
· Develops and maintains a positive learning environment. Stimulates student interest. Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
· Collaborates with staff to implement behavior improvement plans. Counsels students to acknowledge and manage responsible personal conduct.
· Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information. Plans student interventions. Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
· Provides guidance, communicates expectations, and shows an active interest in student progress. Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
· Collaborates with other teachers. Shares knowledge and resources that enhance student learning.
· Promotes the effective use of available technology in records management and program activities.
· Helps students take full advantage of the learning environment. Serves as a resource to teachers with special education students in their classrooms. Reinforces concepts introduced in inclusive educational settings.
· Modifies test procedures as needed (e.g., prepares study guides, reads test questions, transcribes student responses, provides additional time, etc.).
· Proctors standardized and alternative tests as directed. Follows test security procedures. Helps students with content-area preparation activities.
· Maintains accurate records and submits reports on time.
· Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
· Evaluates student achievement/performance. Prepares progress reports. Consults with parents as needed (e.g., phone calls, notes, meetings, etc.).
· Consults with supervisors/support personnel to address student issues/concerns.
· Takes precautions to ensure safety. Watches for problem situations. Works with supervisors and other staff to eliminate unacceptable conditions and/or behaviors.
· Reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect to civil authorities as required by law.
· Makes student assistance/intervention referrals as needed. Meets mandated deadlines for required paperwork. Helps the assessment team develop a plan for students requiring assistance.
· Works with community services associated with students’ programs (e.g., court systems, law enforcement, health care facilities, child welfare services, etc.).
· Provides opportunities for students to participate in appropriate peer group activities.
· Supervises non-classroom activities (e.g., field trips, job training, etc.) when assigned.
· Participates in conferences and other required program activities as directed.
· Participates in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed.
· Strives to develop rapport and serves as a positive role model for others.
· Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.

Supervisory Responsibility: the direction of the director of special education: plans work assignments, provides instructions, and monitors assigned staff. Promotes teamwork and helps staff as needed to successfully accomplish delegated duties.
Working Conditions: to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on
circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
· Duties may require bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and standing.
· Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
· Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
· Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
· Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
· Duties may require working extended hours.
· Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
· Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
· Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
· Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
