Civil Engineering Designer

Alpha Omega Engineering provides civil engineering design services and consulting to Commercial and Residential Land Developers, Architects, Corporations, Municipalities, and Highway Districts. We have over 30 years of experience in a variety of work which enables us to pursue a variety of interesting projects. Our mainstay is providing services for land development on a team of other professionals, who we work closely with, to provide timely plans, specifications, and construction consulting services. The Alpha Omega Engineering team is small and our efforts are team-based, supportive, and educational.

Civil team members will assist through all phases of civil design projects, including, grading, storm drain design, site layout, water, sewer, and irrigation design and analysis, road design, and correspondence with agencies, plan checkers, contractors, and clients. They will have the responsibility of:

  • Working with a team of architects, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, structural designers, landscape architects, and planners depending on the project. Team involvement is one of the most rewarding parts of the work.
  • Acquiring, interpreting, and applying appropriate codes and regulations.
  • Researching proposed construction techniques, materials, products, and
  • details.
  • Preparing engineering reports and construction drawings, details, and specifications.
  • Job site visit before during and after construction.

Valuable skills that are helpful to have and will be learned on the job include:

  • Visualization of the constructed product and how it will function as it has been designed on the plans. How will what you have designed be interpreted?
  • Consideration of how specifications convey what is expected of the contractor. Again, thinking through how others will interpret the expectations of the written form of project requirements.
  • An ability to evaluate what is known and the importance of what is not known when making calculations and assumptions that can be made to determine the output. Not all information is always readily available when engineering.
  • Design experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3d. A majority of this type of work involves the use of Civil 3d’s powerful tools.
  • Good knowledge and experience with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both in writing and verbally. Able to overcome fears of not knowing everything and willing to admit it and ask questions.
