Job Summary:
Nourish HU provides essential food and personal care items at no cost to actively enrolled Howard University students who are experiencing food insecurity. We also operate the HU Care Cart, a mobile distribution program supporting events and outreach efforts. The Federal Work Study (FWS) Student Worker will support the day-to-day operations of the Nourish HU Pantry and assist with various service projects and events that aim to raise awareness and address food insecurity within our community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate, professional and respectful service to all pantry guests.
- Welcome and assist students and guests upon check-in at the pantry. Update electronic daily appointment record using Microsoft Excel.
- Assist with receiving, shelving, and storage of food and toiletry supplies.
- Monitor pantry inventory, ensuring shelves are restocked and organized as necessary.
- Regularly check expiration dates of perishable items and dispose of expired products in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary environment including wiping shelves, cleaning the refrigerator and sweeping the floor
- Support administrative functions related to the Care Cart and Student Pantry.
- Provide donors and other visitors with information about Nourish HU and opportunities to support
- Provide students with information about additional resources available within the Division of Student Affairs and other campus and community partners.
- Assist with creating and designing promotional materials, including labels, signs, graphics, and posters to raise awareness and engagement.
- Assist with other administrative duties and tasks as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Interest in nutritional sciences, health, wellness, community engagement, and/or community outreach
- Experience with basic graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe ) for poster and graphics creation.
Work Schedule:
Flexible hours, up to 20 hours per week. Currently, onsite Pantry shifts hours are between 11:30am and 5:30pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, excluding holidays.
