Position: Associate Fish & Wildlife Biologist
Company: Real Time Research, Inc. (RTR; www.realtimeresearch.com) is located in Bend, Oregon and specializes in biological field studies, data collection, data analysis, and technical writing. RTR employees have been conducting fish and wildlife research, monitoring, and evaluation studies in the Pacific Northwest for more than 20 years.
Job Description: RTR is seeking a self-motivated professional that is interested in being part of a research team. The incumbent will work on a predator-prey study involving endangered salmonids and piscivorous colonial waterbirds in the Columbia River basin (see www.birdresearchnw.org). Work will include capture-recapture-recovery studies involving passive and active tag technologies, aerial and other photogrammetric techniques, wildlife surveys, data compilation, social media communications, and technical writing. Work will occur both in the field (~40%) and office (~60%). This individual will be responsible for leading day-to-day collection of data while in the field and organizing/uploading data on cloud-based storage platforms daily. Candidates with experience in boating on large rivers/lakes, supervising technicians, aerial photography (fixed-wing and drone), data-oriented software (Excel, Access, R, SQL, ArcGIS Pro), with good written and oral communication skills are encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Fish or Wildlife Biology
- Minimum of two years’ experience collecting data using fish and wildlife tagging/tracking/monitoring techniques (e.g., passive integrated transponder tags, telemetry, etc.)
- Experience working with a field crew
- Trailering and boating experience in large water bodies, with a valid boating license
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk on rugged terrain, and work outdoors in all conditions for extended periods of time.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to a job site for up to 6 months each field season (April – September)
- Proficient with data collection, processing and analysis software, and working with large, complex datasets
- Must be able to pass criminal background check and have a valid driver’s license with a good driving history
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as field supervisor
- Experience acquiring and analyzing aerial imagery, including Unmanned Aircraft System operation
- Experience working with piscivorous colonial waterbirds and/or salmonids in the Columbia River basin
- Ability to participate in fixed-wing aerial surveys recording data and working at heights at some research sites (protective gear and training provided)
Location: Bend, OR with field work in the Columbia River basin near Tri-cities, WA and Astoria, OR

Compensation: $4,500 – $4,900 per month (DOE). Travel/living expenses provided while working in the field, including housing. PTO, health insurance, and retirement benefits provided after the first three months of employment. Potential bonuses after the first six months of employment.
