Undergraduate research assistant position is available in  the Entomology Program of Dr. Arash Rashed at Virginia Tech- Southern Piedmont Agricultural Research and Extension Center (Blackstone, Virginia), College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, in Summer 2025. The selected candidate will help with field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments for several projects related to insect ecology and pest management projects.

Job responsibilities will vary but can include the following:

  • Assist with scoring for pest damage, drone imaging, and data handling
  • Plant, insect, and soil sampling
  • Molecular and analytical (biochemistry) assays involving DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, GC-MS, and HPLC
  • Data collection, entry, and analysis
  • Presenting results to stakeholders and peers
  • General cleaning and preparing supplies for laboratory or fieldwork”
