Description:
Our customer, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Satellite Office in Silver Spring, MD, is seeking a talented and motivated Junior RF (Radio Frequency) Engineer with an honors degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or a related field.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting NOAA's mission-critical satellite operations by contributing to the design, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of RF systems that support satellite communications, data transmission, and ground station operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and optimization of RF and satellite communication systems.
  • Perform testing, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of RF equipment, including antennas, transmitters, receivers, and associated hardware.
  • Conduct signal analysis, spectrum monitoring, and interference mitigation activities to ensure reliable satellite communication links.
  • Support the maintenance and calibration of RF systems and equipment at NOAA ground stations.
  • Participate in the development of technical documentation, reports, and procedures related to RF systems and operations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including systems engineers, satellite operations personnel, and IT specialists.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging RF technologies, and best practices to improve system performance and reliability.


Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree (honors) in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, RF Engineering, or a related field.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Basic understanding of RF principles, including modulation, signal propagation, antenna design, and spectrum analysis.
  • Experience with RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, and power meters (can include academic or internship experience).
  • Familiarity with satellite communication systems and their components (uplink/downlink concepts, ground stations, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with software tools commonly used for RF and signal analysis (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, HFSS, CST, etc.).


Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of NOAA's satellite systems, weather monitoring applications, or Earth observation technologies.
  • Familiarity with RF regulatory standards and ITU compliance for satellite communication systems.
  • Exposure to programming or scripting languages (Python, C++, etc.) for automating tasks or analyzing data.
  • Understanding of environmental and atmospheric factors affecting RF signal propagation.


Other Requirements:

  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to NOAA facilities or ground station sites
