Land Coordinator Intern

Role of Job: 

Supports the management and use of land, timber, and mineral resources in support of KaMin’s business strategy. Utilizes knowledge of natural resource principles, theories, techniques, training, and experience to aid in the acquisition, management, and development of existing and new natural resources. Utilizes knowledge of forestry management practices to support timber operations.  Ensures positive landowner, community, and governmental relations.  Supports the development of new department procedures and roles.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports KaMin’s growth by assisting the implementation of short to long-term strategies for land, timber, and natural resource management, in accordance with KaMin’s environmental principles.
  • Assists in maximizing revenue and profitability from land, timber, and minerals reserves, by:
    • Analyzing leases, options, and other land contracts.
    • Assessing real estate value of non-value adding land.
    • Assessing timber harvest and silvicultural agreements.
  • Ensures contractual responsibilities are met and that royalty payments are accurate and timely by facilitating activities of direct reports to monitor and maintain contract management database.
    • Assists the Royalty Payment program which includes calculating and preparing royalty reports, obtaining appropriate reviews and approvals for payment, and maintaining records on royalty payments.
    • Administers property tax payments associated with Land Management activities.
  • Assists with property tax payments associated with Land Management activities.
  • Assist mineral resource acquisitions through fee simple purchases, asset swaps, mineral leases, or similar instruments of acquisition.
  • Participate in quality, safety, environmental, other human resource, production, and management programs as required for the safe, efficient, and quality oriented performance of assigned duties and activities.
  • Actively pursue Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities and training; and assist with other CI projects.
  • Promotes KaMin’s vision, principles and desired culture, and builds a high-performance organization by developing competencies of staff and by creating a work environment that fosters motivation.

Competencies: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Geology, Environmental Sciences, or other Earth Sciences.
  • Entry level experience in land, timber, and/or mineral procurement and land management.
  • Demonstrate computer analysis skills (Carlson, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, etc.).
  • Strong verbal communication, negotiating and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to write and construct unambiguous letters and legal documents.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage different and often conflicting objectives, projects, or activities.
  • Ability and desire to seek and obtain either: professional geologist license, registered forester license, Georgia real-estate license, higher or continuing education.

Working Conditions:    

  • Works 60% of time in an office setting and 40% in the mining or forest field.
  • Must be able to navigate rough terrain (on foot and in a vehicle), walk long distances, and maintain environmental awareness.
  • Occasional to frequent travel to other plant sites or properties along the Georgia Fall Line area.
