The New Hampshire Veterans Home has full-time vacancies for Licensed Nursing Assistant Trainees.
Program Schedule:
6:45am - 3:15pm (Monday - Friday)

Summary:
To work as a trainee under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse and in combination with enrollment in the New Hampshire Veterans Home Licensed Nursing Assistant training program to gain the minimum knowledge, skill and experience and obtain licensure as a Nursing Assistant. The trainee will learn and provide quality direct care services for geriatric and/or psychiatrically impaired residents, including providing assistance in activities of living and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTS
Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency credential.
Experience: No experience required.
License/Certification: Must obtain and maintain a State of NH Board of Nursing license within six (6) months of employment.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Enrollment in the in-house Licensed Nursing Assistant Program at NHVH is required for applicants lacking the licensure as a Nursing Assistant through the State of NH Board of Nursing and will be hired as a Trainee. The probationary period for Nursing Assistant Trainee will be no longer than six (6) months once the program commences until the incumbent meets the following criteria:
- Completion of all the written, verbal and clinical components of the In-house Licensed Nursing Assistant Program at NHVH.
- Pass the Board of Nursing License examination to obtain licensure as a Nursing Assistant.
- The employee will remain in the Trainee status until licensure as a Nursing Assistant is obtained, and will thereafter will be eligible for promotion to Licensed Nursing Assistant I.
Responsibilities:
- Learns and provides for the needs of residents, such as cleanliness, nourishment, emotional comfort and activities such as sensory simulation as directed by a nurse.
- Learns and provides basic nursing care taking vital signs and collecting specific specimens for routine laboratory examinations.
- Learns and completes daily assigned tasks such as clothing distribution, replenishing charts, emptying laundry hampers, and cleaning furniture.
- Observes and interacts with residents, reports observations to a Licensed Nursing Assistant or nurse to assist in care planning.
- Learns and applies documentation protocols to records of all care rendered and describes the behaviors and reactions of residents.
- Promotes resident independence in meeting individual needs.
- Learns and utilizes principles of infection control and universal precautions to foster resident treatment, recovery and/or prevention of infection.
- Prepares and assists with transferring residents to special functions, trips, consults, religious activities, and other places within and outside the facility.
- Encourages and maintains an open communication system and positive interactions with residents, families, and guardians.
- Attends and participates in in-service educational programs to obtain the knowledge related to the position and obtain licensure.
- Observes organizational meetings and committees.
- Shadows the Licensed Nursing Assistant and resident to medical appointments.
