Laboratory Intern
Gain valuable summer lab experience in the paint & coatings industry. APV's summer lab internship program gives you real world laboratory testing and formulation experience. You will work with chemists and chemical engineers in this fast paced lab environment. This is a 40 hour/week (M-F) summer position and we are looking for candidates to commit to 8-10 weeks. Ideal candidates are majoring in chemistry or chemical engineering and have completed o-chem.
Typical duties include:
- Conducts or assists with standard chemical and physical tests of solid materials, liquids, and gases, and analyzes test data for variety of purposes, such as product development and quality control.
- Performs quantitative and qualitative analyses to determine chemical and physical properties of raw materials, experimental and developmental materials, and finished goods.
- Sets up equipment and instrumentation required for tests, development, or process control.
- Tests and analyzes products to determine strength, stability, purity, chemical content, and other characteristics.
- Documents results of tests and analyses.
- Enters formulas and data into appropriate systems.
- May prepare chemical solutions for use in processing materials, following standardized formulas or experimental procedures.
- Assists Chemists and Chemical Engineers with projects.
- May assist with QC or Regulatory Department duties as needed.
- May perform clerical duties such as data entry, logging, and filing of papers.
- Observes all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintain work area in a neat and orderly condition.
- Responsible for cleaning any equipment after use.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
