Salary: $6,268 - $9,472 (Per month)

 

The role: 

We are seeking a talented and motivated software application developer to join the ODOT Information Systems team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting traveler safety and mobility software applications such as TripCheck, the Transportation Operation Center System that is used to manage responding to incidents and the Video Streaming System. You will also be responsible for software application development, administration, maintenance and support tasks. Hybrid remote work options available! Most of this work may be conducted remotely at an alternate worksite with full access to the needed operating systems and technology. However, there are times when the work will be required to be performed at the Salem office building. To be considered, you must reside within (or be willing to relocate to) the state of Oregon or board the state within reasonable commuting distance and have a private workspace and broadband internet connection.

A day in the life:

  • Conduct analysis and requirement gathering to understand business need for system solutions.
  • Design and vet alternatives to implement solutions to meet the requirements.
  • Modify existing code or write new software code.
  • Conduct testing of software code changes and implement bug fixes for issues reported by testers.
  • Plan and execute the deployment of code changes to the system environments.
  • Perform troubleshooting to research and fix system issues reported by users.
  • Execute system administration, configuration, maintenance and support tasks.
  • Perform data analysis and design tasks such as designing schemas and writing queries.
  • Participate in hardware planning tasks such as determining server specifications and work to migrate a software application to a new server.
  • Work with vendors and other state agency staff to implement system solutions and data interfaces.
  • Work in an office environment with hybrid work options available.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Six (6) years of experience performing development, administration, maintenance, and support tasks for software applications;

OR

  • An associate's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field AND four (4) years of experience performing development, administration, maintenance, and support tasks for software applications;

OR

  • A bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field AND two (2) years of experience performing development, administration, maintenance, and support tasks for software applications;

OR

  • Master's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field may substitute for all of the above.

 

What we’d like to see:

  • Experience working a part of an application development project team while writing software application code using C#, .NET, ASP.NET, Javascript, HTML, and CSS programming languages. 
  • Experience investigating application log files and using monitoring tools such as Dynatrace, Solarwinds, Splunk, etc. and have used and written SQL queries to gather information to troubleshoot and resolve software application issues are preferred. 
  • Experience performing system maintenance tasks such as server operating system patching, executing application failovers between active and passive servers, upgrading .NET Framework applications to .NET Core as well as performing system technical administrative and configuration tasks is preferred.
  • Experience using Visual Studio and Azure DevOps for software source code management such as configuring and implementing Azure Pipelines for automating application build and release management is preferred.
