Activity Center Leader - Youth & Community Relations Assistant
The Activity Center Leader–will support the implementation of Youth Opportunities office initiatives which includes Community Outreach activities and events including, but not limited to the following functions:
Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to foster and sustain community relationships.
Assist with youth leadership programming, meetings, scheduling, and communications.
Supervise, coach and mentor youth participants,
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with administration, partners and program participants.
Maintain data, perform data entry duties, and prepare written correspondence.
Operate office equipment including, multi-function copier, computer, calculator, multi-line telephone, etc.
Create an environment which is inclusive.
Utilize Google Suite.
Coordinating in planning and conducting special events.
Required to operate a motor vehicle to carry out assigned duties.
Perform other job duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described. Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on the current workloads and department needs.
MINIMUMS: High school diploma or GED, at least 18 years old plus six(6) months of related experience as a program leader working with individuals with disabilities; such as: personal assistant/attendant, youth leader, mentor, camp counselor, teacher/substitute, coach, recreation program leader, church youth leader, scout leader, or child care provider, either in a paid or volunteer capacity or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. At programs providing direct child care, convictions of any barrier crime set forth in Virginia Code 63.2- 1719 shall be an automatic disqualification for employment in this position. Some positions may require a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: At child care program locations licensed by the Virginia State Department of Social Services additional qualifications are determined by the current state standards and guidelines. Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs.
As a condition of employment, all part-time employees must attend P&R Connection (Department Orientation). If selected for the position, you will be provided your training date at the time of hire. Training is held from 8:30am-5:00pm, every other Friday, at the Parks & Recreation Administration Building. When an exemption is permittable, a hybrid version of the training is available, but will require training attendance on a weekend.
Hours may vary by program schedules including nights and weekends to include (required) Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 2 pm to 8 pm for a continually scheduled Mayor’s Youth Leaders in Actions Meetings.
Additional hours will vary to support the Youth Opportunities Office programs and events .
Average scheduled hours up to 27 hours per week.
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours or maybe be relocated to another location or job assignment in response to short- term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies including weekends, evenings and holidays.
