Community Development Intern

Position Summary:
The Community Development Intern will support the Community Development Department in various planning, zoning, and economic development initiatives. Under the supervision of the Director of Economic and Community Development, the intern will gain hands-on experience in community engagement, event planning, code enforcement, and administrative tasks. This position provides a valuable learning opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in urban planning, economic development, or related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in organizing community events, including a Franchisee Fair and Downtown Car Show.
  • Conduct research and outreach for economic development initiatives.
  • Support code enforcement activities, including property inspections.
  • Capture photos and draft content for newsletters, social media, and the website.
  • Assist with records retention and file organization.
  • Provide administrative support, including customer service at the permit counter.
  • Review and address nonconforming business signage in compliance with regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in a college/university program in urban planning, public administration, architecture, economic development, geography, GIS, or a related field.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.

Position Details:

  • Seasonal, in-person internship (May–August, flexible start/end dates).
  • Up to 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).
  • Pay: $17.00 per hour.
